Adventure therapy is a unique way to experience the positive benefits of a natural environment while also gaining the rewards of a therapeutic process. Studies show a link between intentionally engaging in the outdoors and an overall improvement in well-being. Specific improvements include; a reduction in stress hormones, a decrease in activity in the “fight or flight” parts of the brain, and lower levels of depression and anxiety.
Here at Focus, we utilize adventure therapy as an interactive way to aid in an individual recovery process. Adventure therapy is a twofold emphasis of first mindfully engaging in the outdoors and second the utilization of support and community to obtain one’s goals. This two-fold nature provides a practical skill set that the patient can use long after their individual recovery stay.
Nestled in the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains, Focus offers an exceptional environment for an individual to explore their natural surroundings. While enjoying nature, individuals will gain insight and understanding into their own life circumstances and self-discovery.
